Running Shoes: Road vs Trail
Ever wondered if that extra grip actually matters? Don't let marketing jargon trip you up. We've stripped back the nonsense to give you the hard facts on what your feet actually need.
| Feature | Road Shoes | Trail Shoes |
|---|---|---|
| Outsole Grip | Flat, smooth rubber for maximum surface contact on tarmac. | Deep lugs (4-7mm) designed to bite into mud and loose dirt. |
| Durability | Lightweight mesh focuses on breathability and heat management. | Reinforced toe caps and ripstop uppers to resist rock strikes. |
| Sizing Tip | Standard fit; ensure a thumb's width at the toe for swelling. | Go up half a size. You don't want your toes hitting the front on descents. |
No Machines
Never put your trainers in the washing machine. It destroys the EVA foam mid-sole. Hand wash with cool water and mild soap.
The Care Guide
Your shoes are an investment in your joints. Treat them with respect, and they'll keep you running longer. We believe in maintenance over replacement.
Air Dry Only
Avoid radiators like the plague. High heat warps the adhesive. Stuff them with newspaper and let them dry naturally.
The 500 Rule
Retire your shoes every 300 to 500 miles. Think your knees are fine? Don't wait for the ache to prove you wrong.
Rotate Daily
Shoes need 24-48 hours to fully decompress. Rotating two pairs can actually extend the life of both by 20%.
